Non Neck-Through 1965 450/12?

Calling on the experts on this one. I was completely surprised when I took the pickguard off this guitar. A 1965 450/12 with a neck tenon and an apparent one-piece body. I wasn't aware Ric made any solid body guitars that were not neck through construction. Did they?
This guitar certainly is not a neck-through.
Also the route for the pole pieces is odd. The first route done before it was painted wasn't deep enough for a Toaster, so was it re-reouted and just left unfinished?
Grateful for any light that can be shed on this....
Thanks!
