Hi guys, total newbie here so I'm sorry if this is a repeat but I've searched n searched, n I cant find another Ricky 430 that looks like this.
Is it an early one, ?
Is it a very late one, ?

Any help or info would be most welcome.

I have a '75 430 that I got new and it's a great guitar, though not your typical RIC. You can easily date it with the serial number. Try uploading pix again!

I think I worked out how to post pics, . . . . .


Note hows it's back loaded and not front scratch plate loaded , ??? !

Any ideas.

Ah, that's a models 230 'Hamburg'. Similar body shape and construction but different pick ups and hardware.

There is also a double-bound version, the model 250. I always considered mine one of the most fun Rics to play. There was just something about it, where it felt good in your hands.

To further complicate things, at some point the model numbers 230 and 250 changed to 220 and 260.

Kinda...they also gained pickguards, lost two knobs, other stuff.

The 220 looks nice, but I'd rather have the dual volume & tone controls.

From my experience, having owned a 2030 bass, a 250 and a 430, I found them all to be good guitars, but that body shape always struck me as ugly and featuring cut-away horns that reminded me of Mickey Mouse ears. I eventually sold the 250 when trading a lot of guitars, but the 2030 and 430 got new bodies, mostly because I wanted something more Rickenbacker-like, and because I was bored and looking for a fun project. Then the old original body from the 430 was repaired, re-shaped into kind of a Tele-backer shape, refinished red metalflake and eventually sold to another 430 owner. Much of the work was done out in my driveway, or during winter in my unheated garage, but they were fun projects.

Beautiful work teb! I thought about making a more RIC-like body too, but I grew to like it as it was. I guess it was Forrest White's 'Fender and Rickenbacker had a baby' design!

I did add some contouring to it, which made it a lot more comfortable to play. I used a 3/8" roundover bit all around, then part way around with a 5/8" bit.
