Ric 1993 Plus

Post by ST01 »

I recently purchased a new Ric 1993 Plus and I am having trouble getting a good intonation setting on her. Is it worth going with the 12-saddle bridge replacement? I did see some old posts discussing the 12 Vs the 6 saddle bridge with potential tone deviations. Just looking for some fresh feedback. Thanks.

If you're after perfection, you'll need the 12-saddle. But the "Rick" sound only requires the 6, which sustains better anyway, and doesn't have to be custom cut to the guitar like the 12 does. If the neck is straight and the action is low, you shouldn't have a problem with the 6, unless, like I said, you're after perfection all the way up the neck (where there's NO money LOL)

Have you considered stringing the guitar with TI Flats? They tend to intonate better with 6-saddle bridges than regular roundwounds do.

I agree--the strings you're using may have a lot to do with the intonation. I've always had good luck with the Rickenbacker strings, but everyone's probably slightly different! I put the 12-saddle bridge on my 330/12, and it didn't seem to change that much, to tell the truth.

Thanks for the responses. I will try the "Flats".
