So You CAN Play Surf On a Ric...
In the Midwest, this band was popular in the Sixties. From Omaha. Don't know if they played the Rics on this song, but it looks they had a few.

Most excellent!

Awright Rickosound-you 'da MEN!
All the more reason to contribute to the "Get El Rey a Rick with a Whammy"!
My buddy, producer Mark Neill tells me that all of the bass and most of the guitars on Los Straitjackets are his Ricks! I'm supposed to get together with him to play his stuff soon. I'll report back.
No reason why Ricks couldn't be OUTSTANDING Surf guitars.

Mark produced ONE Los Straitjackets album-"Supersonic Guitars in 3-D" That's the ONLY one with Ricks on it. Sorry for the oversight in my original posting.elreydlp wrote:Awright Rickosound-you 'da MEN!

The guitars are Waterstone Light Fires, which I designed. They have 9V batteries and LEDs inside. They respond to the music being played with different colors and strengths of lights.
They aren't on the market yet, but drop a line to Waterstone for details on when they'll be available.
We're doing them in 6 and 12 string versions, and also bass; all are in the Offset Waist body style, and in 3 colors as on the video.

Thanks for the info JJ!
Two questions:
Bridge options? I need a vibrato.
Pickup options? I would assume pretty much whatever I want.
Thanks again!

WYSIWYG, in terms of production items from Waterstone.
Sooo...I'm building two for George and myself, with Fender necks, custom-made swamp ash bodies, and Jag lead circuits and vibratos.
You want to be #3?

Is it me or is this a 3-piece band? Where's the other guitar?rickosound wrote:In the Midwest, this band was popular in the Sixties. From Omaha. Don't know if they played the Rics on this song, but it looks they had a few.

Good tune and playing though.

I believe that Al Nichol played a Rick with the Crossfires, the surf band that became The Turtles...

"So You CAN Play surf on a Ric ..."
Yep!
The Accent comes in handy; bowing the neck as an alternative is prolly not the smartest thing to do on a regular basis . . . though I must admit I've done it a few times with my 381/12 to get the effect on "The Killing Moon" without ill effect.

Re: So You CAN Play Surf On a Ric...
You sure couldn't prove it at last weekends Surfguitar101 Convention! Not a single Rick-guitar, bass, lap steel-NADA! In fact the only non-Fenders to see the stage were my Reverend, and an Epi SG and Wilson Bros. Ventures Model played by The Insect Surfers. Unfortunately for me, not too many 12-string Surf songs (although Teisco Del Rey does a cool instro version of the 13th Floor Elevators "You're Gonna Miss Me" on a Burns Double Six). It would have been great to see a Rick up there.
Among the Fenders, Strats were a minority. It was a Jaguar/Jazzmaster Fest-REVOLTING. I had to take a lot of grief from Duff-the drummer for my Surf set at the last So Cal Mini-Con.
Him: "Boy Skip, lots of Jags and Jazzys. I guess we know what the best Surf guitars are. How many Reverends are here?"
Me: "We're like the Marines-The Few, The Proud. We don't accept EVERYONE! Did I tell you about the time I won first prize at a Battle of the Bands? It was a new Jaguar. Second prize was TWO Jaguars!"
I hope to get together with producer Mark Neill this weekend and remedie this sad affair.
