Greg Lake Rickenbacker TRILOGY TOUR 1972

Post by Noto76 »

Years ago, sometime in the 80's I seen a picture in a History of Rock book of Greg Lake using a Rickenbacker 4001. The year the photo was taken was 1972. ELP toured the "TRILOGY" album that year. Apon listening back on that album, you can hear that distinctive Rickenbacker sound...( I always did LOVE that album) :D any way, I never again seen this elusive shot of Greg Lake with his Ricky ....until NOW!!! 8) Soooo>>> Here are the 2 pictures Ronbo and I were able to find!!! The funny thing is, the Ricky Lake has is altered, and the pickguard is the same as the AWFUL pickguard that was on the Burgandyglo 1976 that Ronbo restored!! This REALLY took us by surprise!!! The neck pickup appears to be the proper pickup for this bass, (Toaster) and the bridge pickup is a mystery. Lake's hand is covering it in both pictures!!! Also, there is a Gibson bridge cover from what appears to be off an sg, or something, installed for a hand rest while picking. Does anyone on the forum have anymore information about these modifications, or any unseen photo's of Greg Lake with his Rickenbacker? 8)

He stole my control layout I made in 2003 for a '73 4001 I had a few years ago. I still have that pickguard with the electronics on it. At least, my pickguard has the correct shape.

No fame and fortune, unfortunately, but girls?

Luckily, it was an easy mod to do as I had a spare pickguard around; the controls were VVT with a .0047µf cap bypass toggle switch for the bridge pickup.

i still have the pickguard all wired up if someone wants to buy it.

I have a idea!! If we combine your electronics, with that awful pickguard from my 76, we can do up a Grey Lake replica Rick, that will surely bring us fame and fortune, and yes even. ....GIRLS!!
