Lears

Post by Tube_Fan »

Now and then WMUC plays songs by The Lears (Annabel Lee and Electric Mushroom Voyage), which I thought sounds amazing through my Espey tubed AM/FM radio, Pilot 100 stereo demodulator (all tubes) and Fisher 500C amp (tubed) and Altec Lansing 511 horns for midrange-treble and back loaded horns for bass (crossover network uses a polypropylene capacitor and foil inductor). Paul Mutchler plays a 12 string Rick as many of you probably know already. Annabel Lee is probably based on the poem by Edgar Allan Poe. I can't understand the lyrics well enough to tell.

You can hear some samples from this website here.

Paul Mutchler, the 12 string man himself. Can you give us the details of your setup, ie. guitar, effects, amp, etc.? 8)

While I was in the Lears, I used a Mapleglo 1967 360/12. It was my main guitar until, I stupidly traded it for 1970 Gretsch Country Gentleman. Later on, I was able to pick up a Mapleglo 1990 381/12. The amp I used was a 1971 Fender Twin Reverb, which I bought back in 1986. I still own it and It's my main amp in my new band, The Belltowers . Pedals that I used while I was in The Lears was an old DXR distortion & a Arion SCO-1 Compressor.

Thanks, Paul. They played Annabel Lee again on Dominique's Electric Candle, Saturday October 4 on WMUC FM. I downloaded the mp3 from the show and its the second song (not including theme song part) after Dominique turns on the FM transmitter. On the unedited mp3 there's about 25 minutes of silence at the beginning of the mp3 until Dominique comes in, says he's late and plays two songs by the Fugs for someone in Ohio which he says he can't play over the air (internet only). I used mp3direct to edit out these parts. The quality is degraded a little bit and I can upload the unedited one if anyone wants to download and listen to it. The Fugs songs might offend some people, but you can use the slider in an mp3 player to go past them.

I put the edited mp3 show here

Its about 153MB. It also has a version of Eight Miles High by The Index and a lot of good guitar music. His theme song has a 12 string acoustic guitar in it, too.

Using Windows Media Player
after 12:00 Annabel Lee by The Lears
after 01:02:00 Eight Miles High by The Index
