Mc Guinn Rickenbacker. Color?

Post by juanch »

Hi I was wondering if Mc Guinn 370/12 is Mapleglo. I have a 360/12 Mapleglo (2013) and it looks much lighter than Mc Guinn´s. Mc Guinn´s is like yellow I guess. Any ideas?
Thanks a lot!!

Yeah, 50 years of aging will change things a little bit...

Yep, ambered mapleglo. A perennial favorite.

Plus, McGuinn's had a few 370's.

Also, a 2013 Rickenbacker will have the UV finish, which won't yellow / amber quite the same away.

My 2010 370/12 is MapleGlo, and it was so white blonde when I got it that I wondered if it would ever mellow out. Five years on, it's looking just a touch less startling, until I lined it up with a picture I had taken when new. Yep, it's changing color. A slow, but steady process, even on newer ones.

Curious, does it ever sit in direct sunlight?

I think it is the maple, itself, that darkens with age.

No, it pretty much resides in it's case, and when it's out for a few days, it generally sits on it's stand in the corner, well away from the windows. I tend to go with the idea that its just the wood aging gradually rather than anything happening with the coating. It is getting a little more amber-tinted, but quite slowly.

Neat, I never knew the maple itself ambered as well!
