My 1981 320 has hi gain pickups. I'd like to install toaster covers but the pole caps don't look like they screw out?
Has anyone tried this without wrecking the pickups? thanks, Mike

I wouldn't go messing with those wonderful breadboard hi gain pickups. Just try to find some '81-'98 "hot toasters" if you prefer the hi gain sound to the newer reissue scatterwound toaster sound.

It's refereshing to have someone here who wants to play a 320 and NOT duplicate Lennon!

I've removed the poles from early hi gains, and I can tell you that the pickups won't be as loud as they were before, and they still won't sound like Toasters.

I have not posted on this forum this year, maybe not in the last five. I don't own a 320. I purchased 325C64 from that fellow at North Coast Music years ago. I don't pull posts or mess with the hardware on any of my axes.

I have received emails on this topic and I'm just as surprised as Mike Belanger to find he's being IDed as me.

Webmaster, either my account here has been hacked or your database is corrupt. Either way I'm going to figure out how to delete my account and hopefully Mike will be able to establish a new account that works.

Keeping in mind the reason that JL bought a 325 in the first place, because Toots Theilemans played one in Shearing's jazz band, I played my 320 in jazz band in college in the early '80's. The overwound neck pickup was great for playing in jazz band, and yes, the shorter scale did make some of the altered chords easier to play. I have played it here, there and yon for a variety of gigs and genres, and always received positive comments.
