Set-up for 4001CS Bass

Post by Michael_S._Lippe »

I recently purchased a new 4001CS (lucky me). I love it, but find that the nut seems a bit too high. I have to press down quite hard on the strings when using the first few frets. What would you recommend? I would like slightly lower action anyway. Will this effect the wonderful tone? Any comments appreciated. Thanks.

To see if it needs to be lowered look at my posting about truss rods.

This will explain how to check the depth of strings at the nut.

Tone ...to check the effect, put a capo on at the 2nd fret and play.
did the tone change? .........No? well there you go .It's a matter of playability not tone as far as the depth goes.If it's too low then you have a problem and the tone won't matter
