Werner thanks for this photo showing the details.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Re: X-Bracing vs. the Current Top
No problem, Peter... I'm not allowed to post whole picture unfortunately. I didn't really have to time to take nice & proper pictures anyway, although I did have a few seconds here or there to take more arty pictures:

I suppose things are neck and neck there these days.

Re: X-Bracing vs. the Current Top
Starting at the 6 minute mark you can see the necks for 330/360 instruments. Remember these are 24 fret necks so a portion of the fretboard is over the body. The tennon is much longer than your Gibson examples.

Re: X-Bracing vs. the Current Top
I used to work in the Gibson factory here in Memphis. The neck tenons on the ES models (and all Gibsons, really) are much shorter than what's shown in the RIC factory video. They're all like the ones in Werner's pictures.
In a Gibson, the sides and top are all sort of glued around the block. The way Rickenbacker does it looks like it would have much more structural integrity, especially over a span of decades (thinking of ES-335's with the laminate separated, etc).
Curious about those Firebird headstocks, though... are they making Firebirds in Memphis now? If so, that's a new development.

Nah, the Firebird forrest ist from Nashville. The SG and ES-335 tennons + fingerboard picture was also taken there. They're doing less models at Memphis now: they stopped production of the EDS-1275deadllama wrote:Curious about those Firebird headstocks, though... are they making Firebirds in Memphis now? Re: X-Bracing vs. the Current Top
As I was digging further into bracing and such, I found the attached picture in this recent thread:
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=405395
In the old days, bracing was installed after routing - do the C and V-series have bracing that was also installed after routing of the inside of the body, or is the inside routed with bracing in one go, i.e. the bracing being one part with the top?

John, your observation and questions are very interesting, imo. Too bad the few Capri owners at the forum have not replied yet.johncorth wrote:Thanks for getting my bracing thread into the mix!

Re: X-Bracing vs. the Current Top
IIRC the V64s were not X braced; they looked like a vintage Rick, but the interior routing was the same as a modern Rick.
The 360/12C63 is routed out completely, and the X bracing is then added, IIRC.

There is no reason to ever be bored.
