Opening up my 650, recommendations on pots

Post by Coach »

I just ordered a toaster to put into the bridge position of my 650. The intention is to get a bunch more jangle from the bridge position while keeping the power of the neck position for hotter leads.

While I have it open should I be checking anything in there. I gather the actual resistance of the pots should be checked. Of course I will look over all the solder joints. Anything else?

Here is another, related, question. The 650 originally has two HBs in there and I believe the pots are 500ohm units on the tone side and 250 ohm on the volume side ( per the wiring diagram ). Should I leave the 500 ohm units or go with either the 330 ohm or the 250 ohm which are both used on the guitars that come stock with the toasters? What would be the end results tone wise of each?

Thanks for any suggestions,
Harry

Harry, RIC used the 250k volume 500k tone pots for decades with the toasters, both guitar and bass.

And Welcome to the RRF. :)
