ABS and celluloid binding

Post by basshead »

Hi guys, I'll be doing the binding on the "Wreckenbacker" soon(ish) and it occured to me to ask if celluloid checker binding and ABS white binding are compatible? I have some Weld-on #16 cement, celluloid checker binding and ABS white binding. IS that combo going to work or should I try and get some white celluloid binding?

RIC uses ABS FYI. (Sorry, I could find an acronym for uses)!

The two kinds are compatible and look the same once finished, but celluloid is much nicer to work with IMO. :)

+1

I threw my ABS away, it was so much harder to work with than celluloid, especially over sharp degrees (like the horns).

Tho the two can be glued to each other, celluloid is whiter and more precise in dimension, being sheet-cut. Commercial ABS binding is extruded. You can sheet-cut ABS binding, but it is a lotta work.

Thanks everyone. I think I'll try and source some white celluloid binding.

Thanks Paul. I've also found some at Winfield Vintage.

Are you still able to knock me out a non ambered Azure swatch please? I hope to be painting the Wreckenbacker in the next few months.
