6 to 12-string modification

Post by grumpylaird »

Hello everbody and Happy New Year,

Having had little luck to find an 325-12 up for sale lately, I have started pondering over the idea of convertinf a 320 6string into a12string.
Any thoughts, experiences, caveats, or encouragement anybody might want to share?

could totally be doable. you might want to check your headstock width and height.
my 350/6 is:
height going from the side surface where tuners on a 12 string would have to mount:
4,1/4" on bass side,
5,1/4" on treble side
while the width across the headstock is only 2,5/8" at narrowest point.
my 360/12 and 620/12 headstocks are both:
5,1/4" on bass and treble sides and
2,7/8" at narrowest point across the front.
you might have to relocate all of the tuners to squeeze in all of them. also you will definitely need the smaller 12string nameplate.
I do know on eBay you can find guys who have made 12 strings out of telecasters by mounting an extra set of tuners to the side of the headstock and it actually looks like it works quite well.
if it can be done with a Tele it can totally be done with a Rick if you count on relocating all the tuners and routing grooves in the headstock.
sounds like a cool project!
