Greetings - I'm talking to the seller of this 360/12 (1960s-era), and he sent me this photo of its control cavity.

To me, it looks like some of the wiring has been replaced, which I don't mind too much, but also, it looks as though the wood surrounding the cavity has been cut / or whatever.

Hacked, really.

But we don't know.

What do you think? Do you think the wood left the factory like that?

And what about the changed wiring, do you see that too?

Knowledgeable replies and rank speculation are both appreciated!

thanks much -

Richard

At least some of the wiring has been replaced, but the pots/caps look original.

The cavity has definitely been hacked. I believe they were routed using a template at the factory, so they generally have a uniform shape.

From the "rank speculation" camp - maybe someone hacked-in an onboard compressor or some other type of onboard effect (though I'd bet on compressor, given it's a 12-str), then it was later removed and the wiring cleaned up????

Can't really think of any other reason to massacre it like that.

Don't forget about the shielding added to the underside of the pickguard.

Some of the wiring has been replaced, but the opening for the controls doesn't look bigger as much as it looks like it was done with the wrong tools. Maybe someone borrowed the guys router? This looks like it was done with a drill and a saw.
