4004L Electrics question

Post by everogere »

Just purchased a brand new Rickenbacker 4004L and although a lovely instrument I find the volume control disappointing. It seems to be either fully on or fully off and only seems to have an affect for a small section in the middle. I know I shouldnt have to, on an bass with a RRP of £2800 but would a change of pots with a different value make any differnce ?? Or any other suggestions. Thanks

The pots are all 330K, and from my observations, not often very close to that spec. The optimum spec for the pots in these basses with their HB1 humbuckers is 500K. The stock cap is also better suited to single coil use at .047uF. A better choice would be .022-.033uF to bring out a brighter tone more characteristic of a Rickenbacker. I build custom harness for these basses, and find Balance/Volume/Tone with coil shorting to be a more versatile choice.
