Loose pot knob on shaft

Post by scoobster28 »

My "blend" knob on my Rickenbacker is loose. I haven't used it much, so it isn't worn from use. The knob pulled off easy, and I could see the set screw screwed in and out like normal (so I don't think the knob's threads are stripped). But, when I put it back on the know I cannot tighten the set screw enough to prevent it from spinning on the shaft. The shaft don't have a flat portion for the screw to bite into, and aside from a slight bump is practically smooth all around.

Any ideas?

(Snarky ones like "you don't need that knob anyway"... while true... aren't that useful!)

The knob's threads may not be stripped enough when there is no torque on the screw until it is tightened onto the pot's shaft. Otherwise, I can't think of any other reason it won't hold in place on the pot. No need for a flat spot on the shaft although you could add one if done carefully.
