A baritone ric would be cool, but I'd want it to look right.
The 8 string CS bass at the hotel was interesting because they added an extra fret, left the neck pickup in the 1" position, but because the fretboard was longer it looked like the 1/2" position.
It was a sort of illusion but it really worked.
That sort of carefull planning would be needed to make a baritone appear "correct".
Keeping the RIC design elements is really important. That is the problem I have with the 4004 bass. It has the shape of the ris bass, but not any of the other design cues. I think if it had a 300/4005 style pickguard on it, it would look more "ric". IMO.
If anyone can do it, and "make it work" (as they say on Project Runway") it would be Paul.

Any update on this project? I'm in the market and have looked at the Strat and Tele Sub sonics, but a Rick would be way more cool for pulling of that Wichita Lineman solo.

It's not been started yet...we're still looking for suitable bodies for the project. I'm thinking this Spring for a start date; April or May.
Could always happen sooner...

This was my old idea for a baritone 481... it's a way of moving the bridge back that looks good and accurate, because it's how the 4000 was done and it uses the Combo bridgeplate. This would allow a regular length neck, with frets compensated for a 30" scale.
