“Howard, I think people might think we're joking about drop bears,(koala's to be correct), but I for one wouldn't be caught without my trusty hard hat out in the bush - would you?”
I was told at the Sanctuary that a common occurrence is that (good intentioned) people will try to pick the koala up from the front (in order to move them out of harms way).
I was told if you have to try and pick one up, always approach them from behind.
When they are picked up from the front they tend to swing their bodies up-side-down and latch onto the crotch area. OUCH.

Another highlight was our trip to Ackland St, and the St. Kilda area. For a reference point, it reminded me of Atlantic City, NJ before the casinos came along. The architecture was reminiscent of that shore line / deco combination that was huge over here in the 1920’s.
The area appeared to be a once wealthy vacation destination that fell into dilapidation. Today it now has started its’ renascence. For sure it was a young crowd that was around us. A lot of “artsy” people too. The area seemed to have a lot of cake shops amongst other fine stores. It was a good way to spend an afternoon.
Here is an awesome facade of a small amusement park.
A small walkout pier.
A concert hall.

Thank You Darren......I would love to come down under this summer. Do you have a long board I can borrow? You know I grew up on Venice Beach near L.A. Calif. and have been surfing since I was 5 years old. I'll bring a guitar or 2 so you must supply the Amps, I like a VOX AC 15. But any nice tube amp will do. My son who is a Pro Skateboarder spent several weeks in Melbourne and Sydney, then a week in KIWI Land, N.Z. He absolutely loved it and raves about how great the people were. I can hardly wait. And by all means, the music session we did was awesome, so I am looking forward to seeing you and your mates, and a few cold ones.
There's a whole heap of other photos that Dave probably won't post here, and the true story of his Australian adventure is incomplete without them.
First up, Dave was usually clutching one of our large wine glasses:-
He tried hard to impress my sister-in-law with his attempts at an Aussie accent, however he ended up sounding like some strange Englishman - a bit like Graham Griffiths usually does
Here is one of our more tender moments together -Dave told me that he had a real soft spot for pink iced and cream-filled pastries
Here's Dave taking time out to smell the roses. Just prior to this photo being taken, Dave was frolicking around the rose garden, dancing a happy little dance and giggling like he was back in school again! Boy, what a softie he is!
Finally, can you pick the similarities here? Yup, both are cute and cuddly, both sit around all day intoxicated and both make a funny grunting sound at night!
Dave and Lisa were an absolute pleasure to host and a lot of fun to have around. I still find it amazing how this forum has connected so many of us around the world. Once again, our thanks go to Peter McCormack and to John Hall for making it possible.

Hi Dale. I've surfed here for over 38 years. Unfortunately I sold one of my longboards to help finance my trip to New York last year, so I'm down to one at the moment, unless of course you'd like to surf my old 1962 10'3". It goes great in a straight line; unfortunately being about 35lbs it can be a bit hard to turn. Hopefully I'll have another new longboard later this year. Plenty of great breaks to choose from and April through October is the best time for surf in Victoria. The water will be cold so a 4/3 steamer is recommended and booties if you don't like iceblocks for feet!!!
I'll post websites for all the local surfcams later.
If you need any info just yell !!!!

Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well, I have others.

Dave: I can't wait to see how you will conclude this thread!
Dale: Shane is clearly our resident surfing expert. Don't worry about bringing a guitar, I have one or two you can use
