has there been a San Francisco Bay Area gathering?

Post by hieronymous »

I really wish I could go to the Southern California gathering but it just doesn't fit my schedule. The New England one looks great too, and I am actually going to the east coast twice this year, but not at a time that coincides with the dates people seem to be thinking of. Then I realized - has there been one in the San Francisco area? We've had two Alembic Gatherings in the area, but I'm not aware of a Rickenbacker one.

I live about an hour and a half away, but it's doable, even if just for one day for me (I work Sundays). I know of at least one Rickenbacker devotee, if not guru, and there's got to be a bunch more! Anyway, I just wanted to plant the seed. Maybe we're too close to Southern CA?

Hieronymous, sorry you won't be attending. :(

IIRC, we Socalers have mulled over having the California confluence in an area other than Orange County, and the Bay Area was one of the areas considered. Personally, I probably could make it to a Bay Area confluence, but I'm not sure how many others could make it.

It'll happen when the time is right - maybe we just haven't hit critical mass up here yet.

Now that I think about it, Alembic has roots in this area, while Rickenbacker is based down there - maybe that has something to do with it?

A San Fransico Bay area confluence sounds good to me.

Sorry you can join us for the SoCal confluence, Harry.

Whew, I thought you meant you were happy I wasn't showing up! 8)

It was funny reading through the threads on the So Cal and Northeast gatherings - combing through the posts, looking for dates, getting excited when someone mentions dates that I could be available, getting bummed when it's a weekend where I'm booked, up and down, finally realizing that it's a weekend where I am free that Saturday but not Sunday, in which case I would have a five hour drive back home Saturday afternoon, then off to work Sunday morning, in which case it's not really feasible. :(

But I will be patient - given time, maybe enough momentum will build up here in No Cal! And hey, it's not as frustrating as when there's something right in my area and I'm on the other side of the country that weekend!

I'd go for a SF Bay Area gathering. I think indeed, Alembic is right here in Santa Rosa, and Mesa Boogie amps are made just down south of me in Petaluma. ( Can I talk about other products than Rickenbacker being a newbie on the forum ? )

It would be great to meet so many Rickenbacker aficionados, hope I can do it before I get too old

Cheers,

I'd go to SF for a confluence. I'd probably book a local show, bring the whole band, and make a weekend of it. :D I'm the only Ric player in the band, but things could change; our bassist likes Ricks, but doesn't have the funds for one at present. Our other guitarist is a dedicated SG player.

I'd be up for one too......... assuming I was in SF at the time!

.... and I plan to be from July 27th to August 5th or 6th...... with Socal on the 2nd and 3rd, of course!
