Sorry guys, but since I was a formally-trained "efficiency expert" in another life, if we wanna have one, it's time for the "movers and shakers" to start talking. I suggest a Saturday mid-afternoon get-together at "The Starting Gate". You have to admit-it's a nice facility for free. I know Gary has some PA suggestions, Paulie has some thoughts, Rich and Joey's minds have to be working. Let's set a date, and anyone wanting to participate can join in.
For those of you in other areas, this is a great opportunity to combine some Rick-Love with a trip to sunny So Cal.

This is one I can make this year, as I'll be at NAMM. Bringing step-son Gabe with me as well, and he's an excellent drummer who sat in for a few numbers at BARC.

Looking forward to seeing all of our SoCal friends!

Not that it's a requirement or anything, but the last two years we've done this, the jam has been held the weekend following NAMM, because there are so many events NAMM weekend that most people go to those instead. Additionally, after walking around the convention center all day and being exposed to complete sensory overload, no one who could participate in the jam is in any shape, or has any desire, to engage in any jamming. Just a heads up. :D

That's ONE of the reasons I don't go to NAMM any more.

I love going to NAMM show. I enjoy it very much, but at the ends of the NAMM days when I been standing/walking most of the time, the only activity I want to take part in is sitting, eating a nice meal with my fellow NAMM going friends, maybe going with my NAMM friends to catch someone else performing, as long as I can sit down.

I'm hoping for some NAMM specials this year. Sunday's the day. I won't be buying any guitars or anything, but I would like to maybe pick up some bits extra bits; string winders, picks, capos, cool cables, and other widgets I can stuff in my gig bag or pedal board that come in handy at gigs and jams. Abestnt the plaid exterior, my gig bag has come to resemble Felix the Cat's "Magic Bag". :D

OK, so let's get together at The Blue Cafe. Hopefully when someone good is playing at Don the Beachcomber in Sunset Beach so I can manage my OC time efficiently. :P
Or when Paul is playing at TBC afterwards.
Skip

Err, have you forgotten? You're going to be too busy working for us to leave the booth during the show!

Technically speaking, there is no selling (and delivery on the floor) allowed at NAMM, although they do allow removal of items at the end of the show by dealers of items on display. But that's just the letter of the "law" and not exactly what happens. There's still plenty of freebies available; I often find some new drum sticks, for example.

This year will also be a first, as Sunday will be open to the invited public . . . for a cost. Any NAMM member dealer can get you an invite apparently but, as I understand it, you'll need to add $75 to that invite at the door before they let you in. Also, they've already mailed out many invitations to club owners, band directors, and others that might be related in any fashion to the music market.

John:
Paulie could probably accomplish all that on his morning coffee break!

I always thought a "Public Day" would be a good idea-$75.00 is a bit steep, unless it includes having your picture taken with the Dean girls (are they still there?).
Shortly after I moved to Southern Cal from the East Coast, I read about the NAMM Show in the LA Times on Sunday and decided to go check it out. I didn't know it was "to the trade". When I got to the Convention Center, I lined up at the Entrance. Several musicians ahead of me were turned away. I was asked what my association was with the Music Industry. At the time, I worked in sales for a carpet manufacturer, so I produced my card and told them we made carpet to put on studio walls-and they went for it. Got my pass and had the time of my life. One of the first stops on my list was Rickenbacker, because I thought they were beautiful and we rarely saw them in South Carolina.
I would need a Semi to haul away all the stuff I accumulated over the years at NAMM-both freebies and things I bought. I also traded with other manufacturers when I worked for Pignose.
Stephen Segal came by The Pignose booth on Saturday and wanted to buy almost everything in the display. Contrary to what you might think, he's a very nice guy, although he obviously believes his own press clippings. Not a bad blues player either.
He sent his "lackie" by on Sunday with a check to pick everthing up.

Ah, true. I will be too busy working. Didn't want to announce anything, but let me just say Thank you very much for the opportunity. I am looking forward to it!
Maybe Joey or Rich can pick up a turbo tune for me or the latest Vox brochure. Another AC30 HW would be cool... .

Okay, well, first things first; how many people can make it on Saturday the 22nd?

So far, it looks like:
Yes
Paul Wilczynski
Rich Ferguson
Skip Baker
Steve Forsgren
Maybe
Joey Vasco
Paul Azpeitia (gotta check my schedule-when it comes out-first weekend after school starts)
Steve Trivoli (fingers crossed, good vibes, and prayers, for a complete recovery soon from his upper respiratory infection!)

If enough folks can participate on the 22nd to keep the bar and kitchen busy, we can ask the booking manager at the Blue Cafe if she will book us for the day. We'll likely have to hire the sound guy; they don't really know us from Adam, so they aren't going to let us at their P.A. unsupervised.

I'd like to give the guys who didn't get to play at SCARF, or barely did, first shot on the schedule, if possible. Apologies again to these gents for our not being as organized as we set out to be at SCARF. I hope it has not dissuaded anyone from coming to jams. My only request would be for those we put at the head of the line to be at the head of the line when we count off for the numbers they've signed up for. :)
