I think so too! Maybe we should have offered Backline a bit extra for their showcase room to bump the other bands. It's not like we don't have many people to contribute to the cause!Danotron wrote:We're going to need a bigger room
Jeffrey must be coming, he's posted several times in this thread!
The JETGLO finish name should be officially changed to JETGLO ROCKS!

....and a bigger boat.
Re: SoCalCon this year?
With 40, the room at Backline would be crowded, too. Since it's only going until 6, would the Starting Gate be a possibility?Danotron wrote:We're going to need a bigger room

We'd be calling the manager of the Stating Gate pretty much at the last minute. They probably have something booked already. Then there's the PA issue. We'd have to rent one and then get it there and back.beatbyrd wrote:With 40, the room at Backline would be crowded, too. This has turned from mini-jam to SCARF-like without the guitar display.
The head count will probably be more than 40. I'd say we could move it to one of my band's studios, but with that headcount in the middle of a So Cal September day, it will get way too hot in there.

Re: SoCalCon this year?
Due to the amount of people that will be attending, I'm going to see what I can do about getting the venue changed. I have a place in mind that has a PA with a larger real stage and much larger room than Bombshelter. Not everyone that is attending, RSVP's here. Some do it through Facebook, some through emails. Wish us luck! I'll know in a few hours.
Oh..and Ohio will be represented by a bassist, but it's not Jeff Scott!

Good luck; I'll cut down to 1.5 meals a day, halve my portions, and double my exercise regimen to help free up some space....

Everyone would have to do that to increase space if we have this shindig at Bombshelter!paologregorio wrote:Good luck; I'll cut down to 1.5 meals a day, halve my portions, and double my exercise regiment to help free up some space....

Re: SoCalCon this year?
I agree --- we are looking at one seriously packed rehearsal hall. (top packed).
This is a good thing - it means there are plenty of interested attendees, but I second the thought of looking into another venue.
The Starting Gate is not bad, despite it's shortcomings, but I'd be surprised if they were ok with a short-notice booking.
What I've suggested in the past, and have taken the liberty of calling, is the British Dominion & Social Club in Garden Grove (http://britclub.org/hall-rental.aspx ). It is close proximity to both bombshelter and starting gate, has a stage, plenty of space, offers a full bar (and some food), is safe and secluded from the public.....and best of all, they have no bookings on Saturday.
I left them a message to find out what they might charge.....but it may be worth looking into. Any thoughts?

Re: SoCalCon this year?
We tried to get this club last October for the Mods/Rockers event; it was difficult to actually meet with the club rep who could actually say "yes" to the proposed arrangements, and after the venue was "locked in," and after they'd taken the group's refundable deposit, they wanted the group to sign a completely unacceptable contract wrt liability. I would not have signed it, and neither would anyone from the group once the language was explained to them. AFAIK, the "refundable" deposit was not returned.

Maybe you guys could hold it here?
Re: SoCalCon this year?
Interesting, well.....scrap that idea.
What liability though? Just curious, but there wouldn't be any liability coverage if we were at Bombshelter or starting gate, I can't imagine we would have anything either.

Liability for anyone injured during the event. That was the biggie; I don't remember if it was also liability for anyone's damaged property.collin wrote:Interesting, well.....scrap that idea.

The organizers said no because the group was not a business, and the Dominion, as a business, should have insurance to cover liability. In case of injury where a patron was at fault, the Dominion's insurer could sue the patron to recover a payout if the patron were negligent.
