Mini Con - Jake Jam

Post by 8mileshigher »

A hot summer week in Southern California and Jake and his family are spending some vacation days out here, so what better idea then to get a few guys to bring some vintage Rics and some new acquisitions .... enlist a few drummers and a keyboardist, to have a little get together Mini Con - Jake Jam on a Saturday afternoon ? ! :D 8)

Many thanks to our host, Gary, for sharing his fantastic music studio ! :D

Anyone downloaded their cameras yet and have some pics to post ?

Rich -- check your email.

Yeah, this was an absolute blast. A lot of music was played. There were many highlights, but I really enjoyed playing early Who with Collin, it sounded like what would happen if Tom Petty and Mike Campbell played The Who. I also liked playing Byrds with Gary and Rich quite a bit.

I test drove a fireglo Tom Petty 660/12. There's a shot that Gary took where I look like the cover of Damn The Torpedoes with the 660. It was a great guitar, and I will make a return to a 660/12...one day.

But the best playing and sounding guitar was probably Dan-O's 360/12 Carl Wilson. It was certainly the best 12-string guitar I've ever played. It had a sound like no other, and that thin top really makes for that classic sound. It sounded noticeably different than Gary's McGuinn.

I also liked Collin's 365 New Capri. I liked it so much, I pretended to leave with it!

Gary, you've got a wonderful home, an awesome selection of gear and an ultra-cool music studio. Thanks again for hosting it and letting us hang out and jam there!! You guys really do make fun times.

Today I met Jay Leno at The Tonight Show and got a picture with him. Very cool guy.

I definitely need to work on my smile (at least when pictures are being taken).

I was acting naturally, I just wasn't smiling.............................I do smile (sometimes......even usually) :)

Anyway, I took a few pictures on my cell phone. This is my favorite. I had a great time last Saturday. Thank you Gary for sharing your house and thank you Jake for making SoCal a regular stop!
