Rick 75th Content..House of Blues Sunset Strip...RIP :(

Post by leftybass »

Well, at least we got to party down in the place.....seems they're tearing it down for 'progress'.....

Those of you who were at the Rick 75th anniversary remember the place well, and it was a great time for sure....during the evening that's where I got to meet Carl Wilson's sons, Peter Buck and Mike Mills, Susanna Hoffs, The Smithereens, Chris Squire (again) :) Billy Hinsche (again) :) among others...Skunk Baxter was in the house too.

Quite a rogues' gallery waiting to get in.

Sad to see it go. Well, we still have the bar at The Doubletree. :D

One of my bands recently played there. We saw no indication at the time that this was happening. From what I've heard, they will try to move that HOB to another location...but who knows...
The JETGLO finish name should be officially changed to JETGLO ROCKS! :-)

Awww. Too bad. It was a fun place.

A fun weekend, too. And don't forget... Paul Kantner, Marty Wilson-Piper, Matthew Sweet and Lemmy Kilmister!

Did anyone stay awake on the bus ride back to the hotel?

Hmm, there was a bus ride back, too? It thought we just walked out the door of the HOB right into the hotel lobby?

IIRC, only me and one other person... maybe Koelling or Biscuti? I think it was Koelling. Or maybe I was asleep. I don't remember too good.

JDog...Yup, I stayed awake for the bus ride. I think we were the only two...One other little known fact about the HOB that night - Prince was had a private shin-dig upstairs. My brother Joe (some of you may remember) figured out a way to get a wrist band and get in. I wondered where he' wandered off to.

I stayed awake, clutching my Squire-signed pickguard. My wife, Dorothy, stayed at the hotel and "baby sat" Melibee's kids and Julianna Wilczynski. I think we got back sometime after 2 a.m.

At one of the HOB bars that night, I heard a knock at a side door. I opened it up and there stood Chris Squire and his wife. I told them to go 'round front.
j/k, I welcomed them and let them in.

I was awake by necessity because I had to drive home from the hotel.
