Mike Rutherford's new double neck.

So there it is, the Yamaha custom shop Rutherford double neck. He first unveiled it during the VH1 Rock Honors concert where Genesis played a couple of tunes.

The bass side of that new double neck DEFINATELY is a Yamaha TRB series bass, the scooped body and the shape of the headstock are give aways but the upper half of that instrument is far more interresting.

According to an interview in the German magazine "Gitarre und Bass" Rutherford stated that they used the neck of his favorite acoustic Gibson twelve string. I assumed that he meant that they'd copy the profile and feel of that particullar neck, figuring that the Yamaha custom shop wouldn't use the actual neck. But lo and behold, the headstock shape and the diamond inlay show that they indeed used a Gibson neck on this double neck.

So if that neck comes from Rutherford's favorite Gibson twelve string, what happened to that Gibson, did it get smashed up?

Was it an acoustic? Not sure there's much you can do with an acoustic with no neck...

If it was an electric Gibby 12'er, then there is probably a nice body floating around in the void.

Totally awesome! Thanks Wout-dog. I'll bet they just did a really good copy of that neck. I doubt he'd hack it up.

Let me refresh your memory... what do you think his famous double neck Ric was made from?
