Since halloween is coming up, butchered Rick basses gallery

Post by blazer »

Being a member of this forum for quite a while now I learned that most of you guys are really anal about Rickenbacker basses with modification, calling it "Butchering" if somebody decided that a pair of Bartolini pickups would be the perfect thing for their Rick 4001. Or if Some metal player decided to make his Rick even more metal by replacing the normal pickguard with a diamond plated one. Truth is that most of those mods can be reversed and the basses can be restored to full rick-hood again.

So true in the spirit of Halloween, lets make a house of horrors gallery of Rickbasses that are beyond restoration, the ones that are lost without any hope of recovery...

This picture of Jerry Only and his Rickenbacker 4001 show what REAL butchery is...

This is Manowar bassplayer Joey Demaio's Rick 4001 bass, or should I say, what is left of it...

He later had it modified even more with a guitar bridge, a replacement ebony fingerboard and an extremely close string spacing.

This one looks actually very cool but it goes against all what a Rick bass should be, the person doing the mods meant well but still...

Read more grim details about that bass here...

Okay people open up your closets and bring out the skeletons, show the horror of a modified-beyond-hope Rickenbacker...

I was threatened with a physical beating when I said one of my 4001C64's would be given the Macca psychedelic treatment. How do you guys feel about that alteration?

But once again I can't call that one a "Butchered" bass. a refinish job is reversable.
