4001/4003 tailpiece mod ?

Post by SixtyFour »

I lost track of the info. on the tailpiece lift modification,

would like to know "washer" size and where to place them.
[refret in progress] thought it would be a good time to install.

Thanks in advance

Hey Paul. The washers should go between the tailpiece where the bridge sits and the routing in the body where the three screws go.
As far as size goes, it can vary really. Obviously big enough around so the screws go through them easily but as far as the thickness goes, that's a different story. What I did was place small amounts of Silly Putty or Playdough around the screw three screw holes in the routing and then without using screws, push the tailpiece back into place pressing firmly. This allows the Silly Putty to be mashed to the corect thickness needed for the washers. Carefully remove the tailpiece again and check the thickness of the Silly Putty that was mashed to fill the gap. In doing this washer trick, sustain is increased greatly and sometimes tail-lift is reduced afterwards. Tighten the three washered screws first then the back two. I hope this helps. :D
