That's singular, not plural Jeff!jps wrote:Andy Winters has Maurice's bass, now.haw wrote:I think forumite Pete Greenwood actually owned Maurice's bass for a bit. Pete, where are you chappy?
Hi David. I am fortunate to be the present custodian of Maurice's old RM 1999.

I suppose that's a good thing, eh?

Re: Lou Barlow's 4001 & His Ric Opinions
If I recall correctly, Andy's RM is about the purest white 60's Rickenbacker I've ever seen.
Re: Lou Barlow's 4001 & His Ric Opinions
I think it was refinished at some point in it's life; it's amazing how well exterior house paint holds up over the years.
Re: Lou Barlow's 4001 & His Ric Opinions
Agreed! All the different bass forums say this. It's old....he changed.... move on!cassius987 wrote:I just wish the topic of "Will he pick a Ric up again?" would die. It's not important, and it's not even correct, because it suggests that his assessment and use of Rics should somehow affect ours. I totally disagree with that.

Re: Lou Barlow's 4001 & His Ric Opinions
I totally agree with Joshua's earlier post, well received and thoughtful as usual.
It was a visceral experience seeing Dinosaur in the late 80's with people screaming "Lou" as he heaved his Rick over his head storming around on stage.
I had played with Sebadoh on stage in Philly once when he had a crybaby episode and walked off...which was a lot of fun and a highlight for me. Lou is a very thoughtful songwriter and whatever he uses he makes it work for him. I hope he replaces his rick, I associate him with one. OF course we know he would sound the best if he picked up another one! If he doesn't I dont care. I'm sure most of us don't anyway.
The transitional 73' of course floats my boat..that what I gots!!

Re: Lou Barlow's 4001 & His Ric Opinions
I just saw Dinosaur Jr. last night and Lou had a Jetglow 4003. It looked like it was brand new. The local music store has had a Jetglow for months now and I wonder if he bought it. I was far away but it looked like it had the new full length triangle inlays.
Re: Lou Barlow's 4001 & His Ric Opinions
What is it lately with the thread resurections?
BTW what's a Dinosaur Jr. that they really need a thread about their opinion?

Re: Lou Barlow's 4001 & His Ric Opinions
Well, I didn't want to start a new thread since we already had one on Lou. If you don't know who Dinosaur Jr. is that's ok. But some people might want to know why Lou didn't get a Rick after his got stolen. But now that he has got one, it's news. BTW, Dinosaur Jr. was one of the big influences of Kirt Koban and Nervana.
Re: Lou Barlow's 4001 & His Ric Opinions
I guess I got (un)lucky and didn't really pay attention to what exactly people played but rather the sound they made. And I didn't care if they used a J-Bass and I used something else so long as I could "hack" that sound and make whatever I had work. My life has been one string of hacks after another in that regard.dricard wrote:jbrando wrote: The reason I wanted a Rickenbacker was because Maurice Gibb played one in the BeeGees. Also, the guy in Ween, Dave Drewitz, apparently digs his Ric a lot as well, looks like he's used it at like every show for the last 4 years. If you've never heard of them look them up on youtube, his Rick is a nice late 70's mapleglow, but he doesn't go for a clanky tone but rather a real, nice, defined bass tone!
I don't know how I got lucky enough to stumble into a new one on the rack in the late 80s.
I left that day with a new Rickenbacker in hand.
It wasn't until later that I found out about "those other guys" who used them. Go figure.
