+1. Works very well with uprights too, and easier on the back than my old AC50.

This is a monster's setup. Any audio you can share, to please my ears?

Did you ever try the AC50 for upright? Some good sounds in there!

I will have to give it a try. I guess if I'm going to break my back with the upright, the AC50 won't do much more damage!

My general feel is that the AC50 has a particular signature sound, whilst the Aguilar has a vast range which includes the ability to be transparent - a big advantage for swing, which is my main gig and the reason for taking up the upright. On the other hand, I have just been given a chance to do some more roots based music with another act - blues and alt-folk/alt-country, and that warm Vox sound may be just the ticket....

Absolutely the modern amp will be more versatile, etc., and to be honest I haven't gigged with my AC50 in years. But still, it did sound good with the string bass. Ages ago I had the opportunity to play a Paul Winter Consort gig and you wouldn't have believed the artistic director's expression when I came into the rehearsal with a Vox amp! Anyway, I used to strap the brilliant and normal channels together, using the volume knobs like active tone controls.

Don't count the Tone Hammer 500 out for that kind of music.

Rickenbacker bass + 15" speakers is magic.
+1!

I'm using an Ampeg B-15R with an EV-15B, which is a huge improvement over the factory mud speaker.

What was the expression? Was he thrilled? Shocked? Appalled?

More like disbelief. All was fine when the music started. I used the Vox at the rehearsal because it was lighter than the SVT head and Energy 1x15 used for the actual performance. But you can forget all that and bring on the 600 watt micro heads!

If I ever start gigging again, I may go this route.
