I've just completed the manuscript and am about to send it off to the publisher for their "copy edit." I'm hoping that their "copy edit" is what I think it is: examination for style, spelling, punctuation, grammar, and making sure I'm not libeling someone. I shur howp I kin rite gud enuf 4 thm.
I had to make a difficult decision to jettison the proposed "anatomy" series that Ted Staberow so wonderfully wrote on the Forum a few years back and generously donated to the cause. There was so much (too much?) information there that I couldn't fit in or affordably support with photos and graphics. I felt that the book was just not the place for it, but will provide links in the book so readers can access the articles on-line on the Forum.
I've had one refresher session with my trainer on the InDesign program and have already begun reconstructing chapters to prepare the book for publication. I've got another session Monday to go over some layout tools. For those who saw my early book proofs, the finished book will look similar to that, only better. With the professional InDesign program, I can utilize more advanced design elements such as spreading an illustration across the gutter to make a spread and other goodies yet to be explored.
I'm a couple of weeks behind where I want to be, but once I get rolling, I should make the deadline (1 December) with time to spare. I hope to have a finished book proof in October to possibly have John Hall do a fact check and to have the publisher (Hal Leonard/Backbeat Books) check that I've assembled it properly to go to press. Exciting times!
