For those in the UK it appears that Nicks Guitars in Wetherby have 3 (!!!) 4003s basses in stock... Little bit far away from me to go and have a look at unfortunately but hopefully will prove useful info for someone on here who lives "oop north" and is looking for one

Yours is a FG on the second batch, right? Mine is also a FG, but on the third batch. It will be one year tomorrow since I placed the order.

not sure what the delay is about as MF has them in stock all the time. Also, RIC doesn't require deposits from its dealers; your cash has been held by the dealer for a good deal of time.

I'm not sure how this process works to determine who gets what batch of this finish, that finish, no finish, blah.

I heard that March was going to be particularly "bass heavy" in the production area at RIC. I hope so, I don't mind waiting the allotted "time window" but I'm beyond that now, and 4003S's are beginning to show up on the used market.

I'm still good, but getting restless.

That does seem to be a long time to wait these days. I got my Fireglo in 4 days from GC and it was flawless. But I understand some not wanting to take a risk with big box dealers.

Finally found one! Tried a 4003SW in the PMT Shop in Cambridge, really liked it. If the SW had a gloss finish I think I might have pulled the trigger on it but they don't... Just makes me more determined to get a Jetglo one as soon as they turn up here!

Don't hold your breath. Walnut has very open pores and is difficult to seal and clear. Probably why the 650E/F didn't last.

Now that finish is really something I'd go for. Don't the 4003W's have a gloss finish or are the just oiled with binding?

Everything I've read says that the 4003W has a satin finish, not gloss.

There was a one-off that had a glossy finish that looked wonderful. 8)
