Yes to both questions.

I talked to the detective earlier this week and at least one of the sellers is a person who has been involved in this type of theft before (with a pretty large group).

BTW, the detective also told me that the pawn shop in Anaheim that has the 660 DCM and the PT reported to him that they also have the Martin D-35 and the 620/6 MID (I confirmed this), so that's six found so far. I also found out the details for recovering them, so that's another thing to do.

Unless I missed something, it seems that Gary has been doing all the research and finding of instruments, not the cops or detectives.
That's the usual way things go, is my impression. No one was injured, and the city doesn't stand to make any money off the case, so limited resources are prioritized elsewhere.

Just a minor update: the owner of the pawn shop that had the four already mentioned did something extraordinary: he confiscated the 481 from a would-be seller when the guy brought it into the shop! So now seven are accounted for. :)

Great news, Gary. Hopefully though that doesn't send these jerks underground...

Thanks for the reminder, Tom. Here they are:

As one can see, there are still 16 Rickenbackers out there. I'll be back to distributing the info to local guitar shops and pawn shops this week.

I've just read this with utter disbelief.
My heart breaks for you. I really hope that you get more of them back.
Pawn shops should be made to pay only to a bank account with full ID.

Thanks, Ian.

A minor update: the detective on the case found a another pawn shop that had bought three of them, but it had only one of the three, the other two (the 660/12 TP JG and the 2030GF) had been sold to third parties (cash, no record of buyer's identity). The one they had was, fortunately, the 4003S/5 Blackstar, so I will be able to recover that one. Also, the owner of the first pawn shop where I found some of them was able to identify the seller(s), so the police will be moving forward on charging that(those) person(s) with possession of stolen goods.

Woohoo!

As for the shop that sold two for cash, do they get to keep that money? Do you get it? The police?

I'm hoping the jerks who ripped you off are facing some nasty dysentery right about now.

Unfortunately, the shop keeps that because when they sold them, they were not reported as stolen (remember, the crooks had a 2-1/2 month head start before I discovered the theft).

I did recover the 4003S/5 Blackstar last Friday. Eight down!

Gary:

Your stolen Ryder 1000 just popped up on eBay.

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/142292832991?ul_noapp=true

Item 142292832991

I put it into the register with a duplicate SN to save the pictures in case the listing gets pulled.

I hope you are able to recover it.

Most likely, this ebay seller, excitebytegames, doesn't know this is a stolen istrument and will, hopefully, be cooperative with returning it to Gary.

Thanks Brian and Jeff for your vigilence. Jake had textred me this morning so I already let the detective know about it, as well as the 6-string Bunker ProStar that is also currently on eBay.
