Just to commiserate a little, I showed up at my storage unit last June 2hrs before a gig only to find my entire PA and lighting rig gone. Same situation, changed lock and management playing dumb. I also thought the same thing - inside job. However no effort of mine or short staffed local police were any help. In fact they had a pretty good idea who did it, however no evidence to connect him to the crime so they couldnt do anything. Insurance told me it wasnt worth claiming because of the deductable and impact to my rates. I never found one piece in local pawn shops or Craigslist. Basically took $5K in the shorts

Gary's is however much worse because of the sheer magetude of 20+ collector instruments - yeow. I always think that an auction that is too good to be true is likely the result of some poor victim somewhere. I just laugh sometimes at these "estate finds" or rare collectables where the seller states they don't really know much about the item. I mean how many 4080's are just going to end up with a seller who doesn't know much about it, yet is asking full price?

Best of luck in getting as many back as you can and thanks for the vigilance of this community!

oh2binmi wrote:I compared your original post to the list of guitars that were listed at the auction and saw several that are yours. Have you/the police, managed to get any of them back for you? The last I knew, on the 22nd the UPS Store on Tustin had picked up the Lace and another item from the auction house. Despite several calls to the UPS Store and voice mails left with Irvine PD, I can't get any information on the items. The auction gallery seems to be playing stupid on refunding my money. I'll keep trying but glad my research will lead to the recovery of your guitars. If you happen to need to fund more stepdaughter events please keep me in mind for the Cybercaster
I am still working on recovering one in San Diego (Bunker 6-string ProStar) and one in Placentia (Ovation Breadwinner),logistics (time, location) make these more problematic. I have not heard from the detective about the ones from the auction house, but will try to contact him before the end of the week.

The Glen Fry just popped up.

No Jack plate on it now.

EDIT: Actually maybe not. I forgot the SN is on the Neck plate on these... Ah well. WE are still looking at least.

I know. I saw the picture of the blank jackplate and immediately jumped to the wrong conclusion.

I forgot that the SN on these is on the neck plate at the back.

Mea Culpa!

Can't offer any help, other than a bit of empathy from across the pond.
Best of luck in finding things; there are one or two there which should be fairly identifiable.

So sorry to hear about your loss.
I can't imagine losing even one of my babies, much less a whole locker full!
I plan on taking detailed photos of all my gear now, and where possible, engraving or writing serial numbers & other secret codes in control cavities, under truss rod covers, and in general, doing anything I can to make sure my stuff remains mine.
Good luck with the recovery of your Rics, may you get full justice, and may the thief(s) get exactly what low-down worms like them deserve.

Side question... is "cwh1" (Chris Harris) the same person as "the emperor" who used to have rants and girlie pics in his ebay listings?

I'm pretty sure he is not, but I've not ever met either person, so . . . .

Chris was very helpful with some of the photos in the book. His photos are always taken outdoors in the same spot it seems.

And, it looks like he's holding the instrument on his knee while taking those photos.

Yep. The shot of the Desert Gold 4003 with BT on page 128 is a "knee shot." :D
