2nd edition sneak peek

Post by bassduke49 »

Just a little progress on the 2nd edition. My graphic artist, Tonya Benson, and I worked up the preliminary cover design. We wanted to make sure it looked different enough to be identified but not so different as to be overlooked. Note that I moved the photo of Chris Squire up front and the new shot of Geddy Lee with his RM 3261 and wall of Ricks on the back. This is just the first pass, final may be different:

Also figured out today, thanks to a lead from Ron O'Keefe and some digging by RIC's Brendan Duff, that the special 4001S made for Guitar Center in 2014 was duplicated for a special order for a Japanese distributor. Same satin finish, same vintage pickups, same rounded neck heel, etc.

Come to think of it, I should probably say "60 Years as Rock's Bottom"! :D

But if I change the subtitle, then I can't say that it is a second edition. Hmm. And I can't say "all new". Maybe just "revised edition"? Hmm.

How about 2nd Edition, Updated (we reserve the right to change specifications, dates, etc. at will, without your consent  )?

I would stick with the existing subtitle -- 50 years. Keep it simple.

Nobody is going to take the time to do the math in their head, anyway!

I like it that you have Squire on the cover Paul, no way you can improve on that, unless, of course, you want to put ME on the cover!

Paul, it looks great! I love how it's different but yet the same. Can't wait to get it.

Also, I haven't forgotten about sending you my 2nd copy of the first book. Just other stuff always coming up lol

Thanks, John. Every time I get a package, I think "it's probably that book John wants me to sign . . . ". At least it isn't lost in the mail somewhere! :D

Paul - I just wanted to say thanks for doing this (and the first edition, which I've almost worn out!).

Someone had to do it, and I'm glad it was you.

Paul,

Geddy's wall of Ric's, is that a Burgundyglo 68 behind him? Scully, that SoB, was supposed to get me a photo of Geddy posing with it. That was one of the terms of the sale, the ******* came through on that. Just curious since I know he took her on tour and played her often during their farewell tour.

No, the lineup in that shot is (don't have build dates) an early 4000, a Mapbleglo 4002, a Jetglo 4001, a Mapleglo 4001, a Jetglo 4001 fretless, and a late '70s Fireglo set-neck 4000. He's holding the RM 3261 that Gary Clauson used to own. No Burgundy in this shot. I hope to use this photo again inside the 2nd edition somewhere.

OK Paul, thanks!

I guess I'll have to be happy with this one.
