NBD JG Laredo gradually gone tornado

Post by woodyng »

I posted this bass when i bought it used a few monthes back. I had plans to have it modded to look like my very first Rickenbacker,a modded all-black 4000 i had briefly back in the early 70's.
Then i started getting other ideas.
Dane has done a beautiful job, replacing the hb1 pickups with a RIC sw toaster, and a Classic Amplification "60's flattop" pickup under the chrome bar.
It has SC-appropriate wiring, with a single vol, single tone, and full size toggle.(just like my old 4000).
It combines the sleekness of the 4004 body, and Schaller bridge, with the old-school sound of the SC pickups.
(The CA sounds really well matched with the toaster, too.)
The excavations necessary for adding/moving the pickups, plus a large route in the control area under the pg, have made this bass even lighter than my Cheyenne.
Looking forward to hearing this at band practice tonight through the Ampeg V4 rig!
As you can see,i like gold pickguards. A Lot! 8)

I didn't realize you wanted the Custom 24. I'll think about that one.

Wow, lovely bass.

Funny all the cool iterations of Ric basses that exist on an unofficial level. There are lots of great looking, often great sounding, mods out there.

The one thing I don't get is that really heavily modded Rick on the right side of Woody's group photo.

That one required major surgery! 8)
Here's a more Rickappropriate photo. With a few minor "jewelry" changes.

Thanks,Bruce! The AVRI '57 Precision is the first Fender bass I've ever loved from the get go. It's a joy to
play, and a nice variation from all my Ricks.
