The thread was called "4003 Blackbird?" but RIC dubbed it 4003 Noir.
(Edit: good morning, Jeffrey, I'm still working on my first coffee, so you beat me to it!)

There were 60 Noir 4003s produced and made available to select dealers, just one or two each. Gonna be hard to find now. This will be covered in the 2nd edition, coming soon!

I like the spirit and initiative of the employees in making these creative and unique instruments. True, they may not be available to us, but they may give us some ideas on our own customizations.
Interesting. So the one pickup bass is a one- off, just for Brendon, and the run of 60 are all 4003s?
Very cool!

AAAaargh! I should have said 30 on the Noir. They made 25 first, then added 5 more for a total of 30 (not 60). Sorry.

I have to say that I don't like it; the shifting of the big pickup assembly towards the bridge offbalances the aesthetics and makes the bare pickguard look even more stark than it does on a 4000.
Incidentally, what does a 3000 pickup sound like - I have one in a box of parts but have never heard it!

Nice picture, the one nearest the front is "98" mine is "83" so was quite possibly in that rack at the time the pic was taken,
