I mounted a toaster pickup in the bridge position of my old 4003FL in 2004, along with a few other mods. I don't recall how difficult it was to remove the hi-gain pickup from the mounting plate, though.

Put an actual ace of spades in the bridge position cover. Neck is overwound to imitate an EB-0.

Does anyone have one or two HB1s for sale?
I can't find any for less than $160. I'd really like to try one in my '76 4001.

Thanx Dane! This stopped the noise which was coming out of my 4000 after having soldered an HB-1 into it. :-)
