Palm muting, with apologies to Joey

Post by cassius987 »

For as long as I've owned Rics, I never found a satisfactory way to palm mute with the stock tailpiece. I have been pretty vocal about my perspective on this when I see the issue raised, and I recall Joey Vasco contended it was possible. Well, if my 2015 4003S is any indication, he's been right all along. I got a very convincing and easy to execute palm muting technique out of it. Fantastic! Sorry for doubting you, Joey. If I had to guess what's different about the bass, it's that I can keep the bridge set higher than previous basses and the action is still low. By raising the whole bridge up, my palm doesn't have as far to go to contact the strings.
