The 4004Cii5's had a much wider fingerboard than a 4004. The fingerboard and pickups on the pre-'2012 4004's was wider than it is now, and allowed for a 62mm center of B to center of G string spacing on with stock HB1's, which was perfect. Other conversions I've seen on 4004's put the strings almost off the edge of the fretboard, and used different bridge pickups for coverage.

The 5 string had a 2" nut width. That, along with the thick necks of the era, made it a bit too much for my hands.

I think that Cii5 would make an awesome 6 sting bass with that fat neck. A new treble side headstock wing, and some Nordstrand pickups with active electronics would make it a much more functional instrument. As it is now it makes a better 3 string bass....
