Re: New basses
Thanks for the great review! I've been really curious about these. Wish I still lived in the States...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Re: New basses
So.....Given this positive review on the new S5, why did you return it? You do realize that the next owner will not have a warranty when they buy the bass?Kiddwad57 wrote:Had I kept the bass, the rounds would have been changed out for flats. My feeling is that the 4003s5 is the best Rickenbacker bass I've ever played overall. Maybe not as sexy as a vintage 4001, so perhaps it will never be as collectable as other models, but if you want to play, it will take you where ever you want to go.
Re: New basses
Great questions, Dane, and to put your mind at ease: According to Rickenbacker Customer Service, so long as you return the instrument within the store's trial period the warranty is not affected. Just don't fill out and send in the warranty card unless you've decided to keep it.
Think about it like this: If a bass is hanging in a brick and mortar it can be played by untold numbers of people until it finally sells. In my case, I put my charge card numbers down as collateral, which is more than would have happened in that brick and mortar situation.
Believe me, I ordered that bass with the intent to buy it. It felt bad when I came to the realization that, for personal reasons, it was not to be. When the time comes, I know exactly who to buy it from.
Return shipping was just over $!00.00, but you know what? It was worth every penny. There was no other way I was going to get that experience.
If sharing my observations motivates a few other people to try out and maybe buy one of these great new Rickenbacker basses I say, "Right On!"

Re: New basses
Thanks Ram, Cjj, It's a fine bass and my decision to return it was a matter of timing, flow, too many irons in the fire. This story is not over! Hopefully this model is very successful for Rickenbacker, they really knocked it out of the park.

A 6er would be wild!!!
Re: New basses
Wild! Has anybody here encountered a 4005/6? I think they were pictured in that black and white psychedelic catalog.

Re: New basses
Two of them are pictured in the book, but never "encountered" one in person. Saw a few 4005/8 in person, some rebuilds.Kiddwad57 wrote:Wild! Has anybody here encountered a 4005/6? I think they were pictured in that black and white psychedelic catalog.

PW made an 8 string from scratch for GG back in 2011, IIRC.bassduke49 wrote:Kiddwad57 wrote:...Saw a few 4005/8 in person, some rebuilds.

Re: New basses
Iirc, My local shoppe has a Ricky in stock in the new behind glass section thats already out of warranty, if you check SN. I think they just hang around unsolde. So check those SN before buying.
Re: New basses
Entirely plausible since the warranty begins at the date of manufacture, not point of sale. With one year on finishes and five on everything else most of the manufacturing issues to be concerned about probably would have already happened.

Re: New basses
Chuck Levin's near DC here had an '08 360 MG hanging for years... I wanna say at least until 2013 or 2014 maybe. It was pretty dusty and beat on and not set up good, IIRC, which just made matters worse with regard to its sale-ability. It happens.
Re: New basses
35"? That would be a dealbreaker for me. But it is not what I read here: http://rickenbacker.com/news_item.asp?n ... ews=recentcassius987 wrote:A couple are available at Wildwood. https://wildwoodguitars.com/product-cat ... electrics/
Relatively lightweight, 35'' scale, 1.8'' nut! Nice!
