Pickup placement is not ideal IMO. I think a lot of slap players would agree that the Jazz Bass pickup positions are far better suited for achieving that sound.
IMO a soloed bridge pickup will get a decent slap tone on a 4001 (sans cap), 4003 or 4004, but the neck pickup placement can seriously mess up the ergonomics if you're using a "thumb up" slap technique. Solution - convert your 4001/3/4 to a 4000!

Or use a toaster pickup and lower it a lot.
