I agree that it's possible. Just not likely. In the OP's case the E string is skewed toward the center which probably means it is getting covered very well by the pickup's magnetic field. If it were going the other direction I'd be more concerned.

The two flat head screws underneath the pickup that holds the base to the pickup can be loosened, that will allow you to slightly move the pickup at the base to align the magnets to the strings. My ‘75 4000 had the same issue.
