Jetglo Rickenbacker Bass with black star inlays ???

Post by hotrod »

I saw a new Jetglo Rick 4001 (I do believe) with black star inlays ( also I think it may have been black star outline inlays) in the late 80's and I'd really like to know more history on the bass....does anyone have any ideas or info on it ??
Thanks Everybody

Hey Tom, the only Rickenbacker bass I am aware of with star inlays is the 4004LK model, which was not black and came out circa 2000:

Rickenbacker did have a special-run 4003s model called the Blackstar circa 1988. This model was entirely Jetglo (black) - fingerboard included - but it did not have star inlays.

Hi John
Thanks....
I am aware of the Lemmy bass but I'm 100% sure of the bass I saw in the 80's...just don't know what it was ...
Maybe Paul Boyer can help....

Could it have been one of Lemmy's modified basses long before the LK came around? Otherwise, no production Rick bass other than the LK had star position markers.

Paul's right- if it had star inlays in the late 1980s, it didn't come from Rickenbacker that way.

Do a search for a Rickenbacker Shadow 4003.

Machine gun Lemmy. That's the one I was thinking of . . . I think, therefore I am, I think . . . .

I agree with the previous post - stick on stars.

Richie Sambora (formerly of Bon Jovi) had star inlays on some of his guitars. Perhaps what you saw was someone's attempt (possibly with stickers as suggested above) to replicate either Richie's or Lemmy's instruments? Personally, I think star inlays are pretty cool but I am a big Sambora fan.
