What?

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that other people don't.

Seriously! I don't care for the bass either, but at least RIC is trying new things. Guess some would rather see them languish in the 60's.

I no longer languish in the 60s. I now languish in the 70s!

I don’t envy Ric. They get so much flack on forums (not so much this one) for not updating their designs, and yet whenever they introduce something else, eg 4004, no one is interested.

Well, six weeks in, it isn't worse than the 60s. But 69 was NOT fine!

I have a deposit on one via Wildwood - expecting it this fall.

That really sounds like a decision you and your wife should make together.

I did a rough comparison of the pickup spacing on this bass compared to a 4003, a 4002 and a Jazz Bass. I just drew vector art over photos I pulled from the net and compared the length from nut to bridge to the length from nut to center of pickup, so these are surely not perfect numbers.

4003: 74-75% (neck), 87.5% (bridge) [aren't these both octave positions? neat]
4002: 82.5% (neck), 93% (bridge)
Jazz Bass: 81% (neck), 92% (bridge)
4003AC: 81% (neck), 91% (bridge)

Limitations: I could have chosen bad representative photos, especially if the camera lens was angled a bit. But I still think the results are likely to be accurate if not precise. As most of us could tell just by looking, the 4003AC looks a lot like a 4002 or Jazz Bass in pickup spacing. I'm excited to hear it.

Ah, memories of the old pickup spacing thread. I've still got that data somewhere. Would be interesting to get some actual measurements...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Should the measurements be made between the center of the pickup and, say, the center of the 12th fret, in micro-cubits?
