Recommend a Luthier in the UK
Not posted here for some time but figured this was the best place to ask.
Looking to get my 4003SPC blackstar refretted (Ive spent years pondering getting it done and finally convinced myself to do it).
Anyone got any particular luthiers they would recommend could do this whilst keeping the paintwork etc as original as possible? I dont want to get the bass refinished once the work is completed.
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Im in the UK (Scotland) so somewhere in the UK is preferable. I dont mind traveling down South with my bass either for the right person.
Thanks in advance.

Jimmy Egypt Glasgow West end.Jim is a personal freind and I wouldn't take my guitars anywhere else.
Jim has had many Rics from me to work on and some have had refret work.He is very good.

Thanks Scotty.
Had a look at their website and fb pages (as you do). Looks pretty good and is a hell of a lot closer to Aberdeen than most places ive seen so far.
I'll most likely give them a shout and visit to see what they have to say about what needs done.

Colin Keefe, Long Eaton, restored all my Rickenbackers, he knows to use conversion varnish and is master in the school of luthiers and with very good prices.

If you haven’t already got this sorted I can recommend a couple of guys in Scotland.
Re: Recommend a Luthier in the UK
I would recommend Charlie Chandler. He is based at Hampton Wick up the road a mile from Hampton Court Palace. A very top tech and has been used by top musicians for years, Have a look at his website and videos. He has set up all my guitars which includes three Ricks. For a full set up he charges £70 including strings. Look him up on google and you will see for yourself.

Jimmy Egypt is very good he did some work on a couple of my basses.
But recently I’ve used George Russell https://www.facebook.com/George-Russell ... 863929557/ in Lochwinnoch
And Dave Grant in Dunfermline
https://www.facebook.com/doc.d.grant
Both excellent used by loads of people and work out of their houses so have less overheads.

Completely chickened out getting a re-fret done. Bought a 4003AC instead. Hah.
Still plan to take my Blackstar to Jimmy in Glasgow for a chat the next time im in the area and see what he recommends/advises on anything I can do to improve its playability without wrecking the original components.
Thanks for the recommendations gents.

Agreed, Jim!thx1955 wrote:Nice to see so many fellow Scots here ....
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm
