Jim, everyone, sorry it took me so long to get to this thread Image I spoke to Chris an hour ago and he told me for sure that it was the "old-style" Mutron III that he used on OTSWOF and Tormato, and ONLY the Tormato album and tour (since YES pretty much disbanded after that). He said he had never heard of a Colorsound Dipthonizer, and definitely never used one.

In fact, he is looking to buy a couple of the old-style Mutron IIIs right now, if anyone knows where one is. The newer ones now being re-manufactured just aren't the same as the originals inside.

Here is a 1972....

Ask and you SHALL receive!

ESPECIALLY if it is for CHRIS!

It was only posted YESTERDAY, so odds are good it is still available!

Thanks Tony!! I just called Ted and he said it is sold Image I hope you called him and spoke for it, on Chris' behalf, else I guess we just barely missed it. But thanks for your quick reply, keep the other eye out for another for Chris, and I will do the same Image

Sorry Elys,

Next time, I'll just grab it and not wait.

If you get a chance, and you wouldn't mind, email me your phone number. In the future, I'll just drop you a dime. My head is up my butt these days, I should have just grabbed it.

I did see a couple on eBay just starting out, but not old enough in one case, not sure about the other.

Email sent, Tony...

I used to have a full pedal board of Mutron effects. I had the envelope filter, phaser and flanger with pedal controller. All of these had internal power supplies as I remember them. I also had a Morley Power Wah and matching volume control. I was way too into one bassist(Chris Squire) to be called healthy.

Dane:

I had a Mutron phaser, Mutron III, Maestro Bass Brassmaster, Morley Power Wah Fuzz Boost and a set of the original Moog Taurus pedals. For a while I had a cheap tremolo, too, unit so I could do Starship Trooper and HOTS. Unfortunately, I got the Taurus after I left the band that did all the Yes covers. Believe it or not, I still used all these effects when I was stuck in a disco band. It was extreme fun to use the Morley in power wah fuzz boost mode along the phaser. Man, was that loud!!! Image

Who knew this stuff would one day be among the best vintage gear around. I sold all of my stuff when BOSS came out with their mini effects pedals back in the early 80's. The BOSS stuff had true bypass and was whisper quiet, but not as impressive as my four foot pedalboard full of Mutron with the aluminum cases all lined up.

That's misinformation, Dave...they 'field-weld' Mutrons to the floorboards of Hummers. It's the height of 'after market accessorizing'...

Anyone see the picture of Bootsy in the latest Bass Player mag? Look at what his water bottle is sitting on, on the floor.

(Hint: think Mutron)
