Squire's other basses

Post by cheyenne »

I know this is a little "off" the Rickenbacker topics, but then again we're talking about Chris Squire right?

What other basses does Squre own? I've seen him with the following.

1. RM 1999 (old faithful)
2. Moradian
3. Ranney 8-string
4. Electra MPC
5. Fender Jazz
6. tranny brown Tobias (low B tuning)?
7. Red Tobias 5-string
8. Rickenbacker 4001 CS
9. Wal triple neck Image

Anyone know of any others? I think his blue Thunderbird was sold.

And does he use a seperate amp rig for his "active" basses?

In another thread we talk about his amp settings, even a piece of tape on one to let his tech get the settings correct. Now if he were to switch to a "active" bass, would'nt that change everything?

#2 should be "Mouradian" - I used to go into Jim Mouradian's shop in Cambridge, MA to get my basses set up, and he had a "blueprint" of that bass up on the wall...

How about the copy of the Wal triple-neck?

Chris also bought a Lakland Bob Glaub, with a Joe Osborn neck, to replace his ~74 Jazz Bass. It's a nice Inca silver P type bass.
Info is available on the Lakland site...
Rickenbacker '64 & '68 4001 basses ♦ Fender Pre-CBS J & P Basses and 1968 Telecaster Bass ♦ Moog Taurus III Bass Pedals ♦ Hiwatt (Hylight) Amplification

Good call on the Lakland - you can see it in the Songs for Tsongas DVD if I remember correctly. Actually, you can see a bunch of his current basses in that one!

Did Chris have any design input on the Mouradian? I remember in a 90125-era interview he said it was going to be marketed as the Chris Squire bass.

If you look at Chris's Mouradian, it has soapbar type pickups positioned similar to that of a Rickenbacker.

The other Mouradians I've seen have Jazz bass type pickups in a more Fender-like configuration.

I've only seen one other that is like Chris's, but its a black sparkle color.

I believe it does jo. I know that the knob layout is different than a stock Electra.

This is supposed to be the first Mouradian made for Squire, but for some reason he didnt like it, and ended up getting the green one.

Keep in mind this is all heresay. Maybe Chris could clear this up???

Look at the pickups on this one compared to the one on EBAY.

Does he still have the Fender Telecaster Bass from '68? Or his Mapleglo '70? Also, the white 8-string. He had the big acoustic Kramer Ferrington too. Supposedly has a Hofner Beatle Bass too(?!!!!) And one of the very first 4000s.

He also used a blue Mouradian Reality bass on the 2004 tour. He played it on Mind Drive.
It looked just like this one ....

Just to be clear, he played this one on part 1 of Mind Drive, then later when they went to part 2 (or 3) he had the old green Mouradian.
