Chris with another RM ?
Chris with another RM ?
Just been watching this and noticed Chris is playing what looks to be an RM, not sure this is his original one. It could be a 67 or a late 64 judging by the thinner top flange to the surround on the HS.

That's his old FG RM1999, originally owned by Donovan and now in the possesion of Vincent Gallo, if I recall correctly. It is a nice one and I for one wouldn't mind it seeing the light of day again...
Re: Chris with another RM ?
just found the thread, very interesting. Although sticking my neck out it ain't from ''that'' batch, is it?.
Re: Chris with another RM ?
?? If it is the Donovan bass, it was in the same first batch of 4 that Chris' RM came in. Chris, Donovan, Entwistle, and Quaife got those basses.Seans wrote: just found the thread, very interesting. Although sticking my neck out it ain't from ''that'' batch, is it?.

but going on the HS surround and the depth of the pickguard.
Re: Chris with another RM ?
Dont think there's much chance of any of us seeing this one Jim.
It would be interesting to find out if that RM is the one on the recording of Hold Out Your Hand etc.
Chris used that Ritual/Gates tone on those tracks and I just love that fuzzy sound from his 74-76 period.

I know, Pete... : (
My guess would be the standard RM was used in the studio and this one was for show. Cost me some $$$, since this video made me want a nice FG S bass & finally picked one up last summer.

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
Re: Chris with another RM ?
Jim,
The only answer is the RM replica bass I want Rickenbacker to make.
The woodworking skills are all there.....
A bit of magnetised steel and cast aluminium is all that we need!
And the cash to pay for one of course.

Re: Chris with another RM ?
The cast tailpiece is relatively easy, but I don't know about the HS magnets. I couldn't imagine, in this day and age, that it couldn't be done.
Re: Chris with another RM ?
Me too, although there are replacements being made do they stack up on longevity of the actual magnetism.
Re: Chris with another RM ?
I thought JH said the type of steel used in the shoes isn't made anymore?teeder wrote:The cast tailpiece is relatively easy, but I don't know about the HS magnets. I couldn't imagine, in this day and age, that it couldn't be done.
Re: Chris with another RM ?
Could be, but I'm sure that's not the only material that could be used. There may be better choices these days.

all of CS's Ricks/history
Wow. all his Ricks...
Let's see.. his first RM was I think kind of a brown gold?... cracked the headstock neck joint then got the stickers all over it then shaved and painted the butter colour we all know.
then the 1970/Yes Album 4001 with modern triangle inlays etc
then the Donovan one in Hold Out Your hand
then 4080 potato head stock
and whatever 4001CSes he has... any I missed?
I see in the oldest yes live video a brief brief flash of the front and it looks brown/golden kind of.
and in another old video the stickers on it..
I appreciate any corrections.
