4001CS's On EBay
4001CS's On EBay
Two up so far, which itself is uncommon. I suspect a few more may come up due to our heros' passing Sunday. These two are already north of $5,000 with time left. Not surprising, but still sad in a way. I can't imagine selling mine....

Hope I was correct posting in this category, since it seemed worthy of thoughts and discussion. I figured under the circumstances, it wasn't just a garden-varirety notice to folks about any old Rick for sale on the web...

83% RATING doesn't inspire much confidence in the one CS. Around $5600 and the reserve has not been met.
I suppose they think it is worth 10K or more.

My wife will sell my left-handed CS when I die.

First one just finished, at $6,010. Wow. We're nearly into original 60's RM money now....

Re: 4001CS's On EBay
I would have expected the reverse, and that 4001CS owners would want to hang on to them even more. But yes, I suspect some less scrupulous owners will want to seize on the immediate increase in rarity value, actual or otherwise. Goodness knows too many great guitars sit locked away in bank vaults, quietly appreciating in value and never being played.fran4001 wrote:Two up so far, which itself is uncommon. I've seen two or three CSs come up for sale over the last few years, and although I probably could have afforded one, probably, I never dared pressed the button because I was afraid that if I owned one I might not want to play the bass I have already.
Re: 4001CS's On EBay
Since there are 1,000 pieces around, I think it is not surprising that some folks put theirs up for sale, maybe coincidental with the recent events, maybe not. In fact, one of the two recent Ebay instruments had been offered for sale already in June with the highest bid reaching $3,500 or so, not meeting the reserve price.
For me, guitars (basses in this case) come and go. Sometimes I regret having let one go, but sometimes I am happily surprised if i can make a profit. After all they are tangible assets, and I can see nothing wrong with passing on an instrument to a new owner. In fact, it is the only way to obtain a vintage guitar.
But I see your point. Guitars were built to be played, although I guess many of us view Rickenbacker instruments as a piece of art as well. Back to the topic: I am curious to see the development of prices for the 4001CS. But actually I am even more curious what will happen to the more limted editions such as the 350SH or the 60 units only 4004LK...

Re: 4001CS's On EBay
All good points. And I too wonder where the pricing will go. The next CS on Ebay is above 5k already, with days to go. It will obviously also go for over 6, just due to todays' auction losers. It may go for WAY more. We shall see. Another interesting thing, several folks on other Facebook Rick forums are already shouting that RIC should tool up and do another run. Hmmmm. Imagine the havoc! I don't see it happening, but also learned long ago to 'never say never' !

Re: 4001CS's On EBay
I've wanted a CS since they came out, but was never able to afford one when they were in production. I may pickup up a 4001S in MG, deck it out with the appropriate parts, and have Pat Wilkins refinish it like he did my eight string.

Re: 4001CS's On EBay
I have #15, it's MINT and not going anywhere.
I'd bet it would fetch more than the rest I've seen so far.
The last thing I would do is sell my 4001CS. Especially now. I find it disrespectful, actually.
(plus modding it for stereo output only drops it's value)

Modding a 4001CS for stereo would NOT drop its value. Doing so only requires removing one wire, and adding a $25 output harness with the mono switching jack removed. It sure didn't hurt the value of Chris's bass.

To be fair: the first listing mentioned in this thread was posted to eBay a few days before Chris Squire passed away, so I don't think that particular person was intentionally "cashing-in," even though Chris' death certainly affect the final sales price.cheyenne wrote:.
