The Easybeats

Post by ozover50 »

Was 'Friday On My Mind' the only Easybeats song that went anywhere internationally?

I picked up the 'Definitive Anthology' set the other day and there are some fantastic tracks:

St. Louis, Good Times, Rock'n'Roll Boogie, She's So Fine, Wedding Ring, Women (Make You Feel Alright), I'll Make You Happy, Come And See Her, Sorry and interesting versions of Hound Dog and Little Queenie.

IMO they were quite progressive - early use of power chords, very complicated and fast chord progressions, extended use of bass.

They got a bit wierd later on, though!!

If you can find the Anthology set, do yourself a favour (or even a single CD with some of the above songs).

I loved the guitar parts in 'Friday On My Mind'

Very good for their day. This should make for an interesting thread.

It was the only song which, I believe, hit the charts in the U.S. and you're right they were pretty darn good, early on. I have the same set.

The Easybeats were another Shal Talmy group (Kinks, The Who). The Easybeats eventually disliked this guy so much they wrote a song about him.

Thanks Frederick,

Did not know that but that probably explains why I like the guitar parts. Must run in the family.

Welcome to the forum. I'm certain that you'll like it here.

A huge age difference, too. Angus and Malcolm must have been afterthoughs or accidents!!

Welcome from me also, Frederick - if you're ever stuck for something to do, this is the place!

Believe it was called Do You Have A Soul but Stan will no doubt confirm that.

One track you don't mention Howard was Hello How Are You the follow up in Uk to Friday not as big a hit but a good record nevertheless.

I don't honestly recall it doing too much over here, Roy. It's never really done anything for me - none of their ballads have. However, my tastes and opinions don't preclude any of them from being good songs that appeal to many. Image

Roy was right about 'Do You Have A Soul' being the song allegedly about Talmy.

Do that, Frederick. Don't be a fly on the wall - come down and have some of the cake!!

Thanks, Stan. I had a listen to it last night and it seemed a bit obscure. I'll dig deeper today.

I'll have to look for that anthology. I really liked Friday On My Mind (bought the 45). I have a feeling that the anthology will be similar to that of The Left Banke, another band with a couple of hits, but their other, generally unheard music was really good, too.

They really were, Gary, you will find the Easybeats GH's about as good as the Left Banke. I found the same thing with the Beau Brummels. All good stuff!
