Johnny Preston

Post by royclough »

I note Johnny Preston who was best know for his number 1 in UK/US Running Bear passed away yesterday, he was, I am told by Bobby Vee's daughter,71, I 'd have thought he was older but she's right.

He did have a number 2 with the follow up Cradle Of Love anD thre other minor hits in UK but only had two more top 40 records in States after Running Bear

Saw him with Bobby Vee a few years back, still had a decent voice.

I remember this popular "Running Bear" tune and just loved it. Interestingly, the Indian sounds were performed in part by George Jones. and here's the other one, I remember it too! According to Wikipedia, he had been ill with heart disease for 10 years and passed of heart failure. He had a nice style to his music...too too bad.... :(
